One of the most successful revolvers of the Civil War, Colt's Model 1851 was also extensively used during the Old West Period. The legendry Wild Bill Hickock carried two Navy Colts well into the cartridge era. He preferred the 1851's balance and feel over the new 1873 Single-Action Army revolver.
